A Colourful Journey

Journeys through my life
Secrets, Hopes and Dreams

This oversize coat is based on an old design of Indian origin, and has been created using upcycling techniques where ever possible.

The only media I brought for this project was the thread and paint. Charity shop discoveries were used along with my studio collection of vintage fabrics and mixed media.

The cloth was created in sections then joined together to make a whole cloth. I used paint, print and stitch to bring large and small snippets of fabric together. The written word is included to tell the journey of my life. The pockets hold secrets hopes and dreams, some can be looked in, some are hidden, and some are sealed. Each one did include little trinkets that special friends had gifted to me, but over the years many have been lost.

All the cords beads and even the mirrors were made by me. Incidentally the shisha mirrors were made using the metal from cola tins and some old curtain rings.

Based on a sketchbook work I used colour and words to express events, emotions and memories of the journey my life has taken.

hs piece of textil art has been included in many exhibitions all over the UK and is always a talking point, and always stops visitors in teir trcks when they see it.

I do talks for groups on this pice of work, starting from the general research, constuction and a potted history of pockets.

Please mail me if you are interested on booking me to do a chat for your group.
