My name is Maxine Owen. I work from my own studio at home and I also have a small studio/shop at the Old Watermill in Barton-le-Cley Bedfordshire, I spend most of my time creating colourful and vibrant art using a variety of techniques and materials.
From the moment I could hold a pencil I have been creative. My passion took me to art school where I specialised in commercial and graphic art, in the days of paint and brushes before computers!
I have worked as a windowdresser in Harrods, then moved on to a large American print company. I was responsible for all the design work for major companies throughout the UK and abroad. My job also extended to in-house design, events and exhibitions.
My work always starts life in a sketchbook. Inspiration comes from observing the world around me, emotions, and the written word. Using paint, textiles, paper and mixed media I create multi layered surfaces, which encourages the viewer to look more closely to discover what lies beyond.
Working passionately and from the heart my designs develop into paintings, wall hangings, fashion accessories, wearable art and 3D textile work.
I have been on an artistic journey for over 30 years and my work is always fresh and changes with the seasons. I hope my work and the colours make you smile?
